You overestimate our government's willingness to take a stand on any issue. Would the rioters run around like Hottentots looking for a culturally sympatico reservation if the cops didn't let them. Legal gun owners are not law-abiding sheep. We are contestably legal because a majority in Congress thinks like we do. They have to; it's in the Bill of Rights. We have the right to self defense, as given by our creator. When a local quorum of morons contrives unnecessary gun control, it usually takes a while to unravel the breach of covenant with the Republic at large. So far, the battles been a compromise. It's more than a question of using a gun illegally. Some fools would rather ignore their oath of office and make pre-emptive laws to stop imaginary future crimes (straw men?). That's a questionable behavior which makes one wonder what the legislators' home lives were like. Did they have an evil uncle that no parent would/could prevent from molesting them? Don't they believe in decent folk?
