I have got an AFCAD2 file for a new runway plus taxiways from UTraffic upload.
The taxiways have trees and buildings on it (Autogen I think). I crash on it.

I have ExcbuilderV2, FSConnect and BGLcom.exe installed but looking
for a tutorial how to do the job of removing the objects. There isn't much info
with the excbuilder program. Must be for specialists only. Anyone helpful info ?

See the thread "Damned Excbuild...." below....

In addition to an example, it contains the link:

Hope that helps...

Hi Fred:

I had an almost identical problem, and started 2 threads on
5-26-04 . The first was callled "Newbie Questions about AFCAD
2.21..." (at 3:36pm) and the second was called "Damned Excbuild,
fsconnect..." (at 11:56pm).

The responses that helped me the most were by "outtaping.vz.com"
(Ping Louh) and by Scott S. Both were in the second thread.
I've been able to apply Ping Louh's method to get rid of all
the trees and it worked perfectly, after I made a few latitude and
longitude adjustments..
Ill be studying Scott's solution when I get back from vacation
in a couple days. His also looks very promising.

If you have any problems, just reply to this message and I'll do
the best I can to offer more help. But like I said, I won't be back
for a couple days.

Thank you both.
sorry I missed the thread.
In case you can't find the old thread, here's the first posted on how
to apply MS's 'exclude' command.

Feel free to post another message if you have problems getting rid of
the trees.

--------snip--------
Hello,

Exclude is supposed to [work] in future updates of AFCAD. I want the
AFCAD with the scenery update :)

Since you created your own runway (replaced) with an AFCAD runway,
here a simple way to remove trees.

I have no idea what's around your new runway (stock FS9 scenery?).
If so, this command -may- remove all stock FS9 scenery, but it won't
touch AFCAD stuff (it won't remove your new AFCAD runway).

If you use the Exclude command to remove only tress from the runway
(and no other areas), it'll work fine.

Enter FS9, go to your airport, press Shift-Z, so Lat/Long data is
showing up top in red text.

Enter slew mode, press S and head into spot view.

Slew to the upper-right-hand edge of your new runway, and write down
the lat/long coordinates (upper-right-hand edge is what ever you
choose).

After recording upper-right-hand lat/long info, then slew over to
your lower-left-hand edge of the same runway, write down lat/long
coordinates. (lower-left is opposite end, and on the other side of the
runway).

Go to main FS9 folder, backup 'scenery.cfg'.

Open your main 'scenery.cfg' file, scroll to the bottom, you should
have an 'example' entry, but lacking some data (Area.038) and enter
your lat/long data in the last entry of your scenery.cfg file (if you
have no add-ons, it'll be 'Area.038'. The 'Layer' entry should be '38'
also.

Here's an example of what it should look like. My lat/long numbers
are different, because it's a different location.

-------snip--------

[Area.038]
Title=CVL RUNWAY EXLCUDE TREES <---- description of what it does
Local=Addon Scenery
Layer=38
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Exclude=N43 4.7,W85 54.67,N43 4.82,W85 56.53,objects
Remote=

----snip-----------

The 'Exclude' line is where you want to enter your (slew-info)
lat/long entries, the top-right, and bottom-left ends of your runway,
just 2 sets of lat/long data, that surrounds our runway.

The last entry, (objects), removes -every- stock FS9 piece of
scenery, including all (autogen) trees.

Notice there are no lat/long decimal entries in the 'Exclude' line
(although you can enter them if you want), and no '*', entries as you
see in FS9 slew-mode, and no spaces after the commas.

If this works, then you might want to go into slew-mode again, and
get new lat/long data out a bit farther, so you have more clearance of
trees on both ends of your runway.

You can enter another 'exclude' command (Area.39 layer-39) to remove
trees for a main parking area, taxi-ways, etc. You just have to get 2
values again, the top-right and bottom-left lat/long data for each
area you want to clear.

For extra help, although it's not too clear, read about the exclude
help already recommended, at:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2000_articles_sceneryobjects.asp

It took me a long while to figure out how to exclude stuff, the
instructions weren't very clear for me.

Thanks for your help.
I managed to get rid of the trees and builings by using Excbuilder and
making a bgl.
It seems to me that compiling it to a BGL before should make it load scenery
faster
as opposit to using XML (which has to be coded by FS9 into code also)
Or am I wrong in this ?
