Can't install CH Flightstick gameport driver in Windows 2000 SP4

Hi folks,

please help me with this one.

I've been using my old CH Flightstick Pro (gameport) with great delight
for several years in Windows 98. Now I've bought a new PC with Windows
2000 installed on it. I downloaded from the CH website the latest version
(0.8) of the analog driver pack. It self-extracted itself under
C:\CHdrivers. However when I try tu run "setup.exe" it won't work and
there comes up a Windows error message saying (in German, so that's only
an approximate translation) "File 'C:\CHdrivers\SETUP.EXE' (or component
thereof) not found. Check whether path and filename are correct and
whether all required DLLs are available." (Original message in German:
"Datei 'C:\CHdrivers\SETUP.EXE' (oder Komponente) nicht gefunden.
Überprüfen Sie, ob der Pfad- und Dateiname korrekt sind und ob alle
erfordelichen Bibliotheksdateien zur Verfügung stehen.")

Now, are there really some DLLs missing? (Which?) Also, I remember getting
this error message when trying to run in Windows 2000 some old 16-bit
Windows programs. I don't know what could be the problem now, however. The
CH website says the analog drivers work under Win98, Me, 2000 and XP.
Judging by the version number (0.8, published a few years ago already)
they stopped developing these drivers and are concentrating solely on the
USB line of products.

Anyone got the Flighstick drivers to work under Win2000? Please help me
with this problem.

TIA,
Andrei

I picked up a second hand CH Virtual Pilot Pro yoke for a few pounds at
a UK car boot sale. I sought installation advice on one of the forums
and this is what I got:

"For game port controlers you would have to install and activate the
game port in "Add / Remove Hardware" first. Many late model computers
don't come with game ports, which normally are part of an add on sound
card.

Then use the Control Panel's "Game Controllers" applet to add a
"6-button flight yoke w/two POVs and throttle". There is NO requirement
for software downloads from C/H Products. The yoke itself does NOT
require any of Windows XP's earlier OS compatability modes."

I haven't got round to installing it yet - new computer coming soon - so
I don't know if it works. Let me know what happens!

Hullo Master Ridcully,

thank you for your kind reply.

I've found another bit of information since that may explain everything.

It seems that the analog CH drivers don't really support Win2k/XP at all,
instead one should use the native M$ driver. So, for instance, my CH
FlightStick Pro should be configured as a "4-button flightstick w/POV and
throttle". This seems to confirm what I suspected, i.e. that CH has
discontinued support for their gameport devices as soon as the USB line of
products came out a few years ago.

Bye + happy flying,

Andrei
