Post by WillIt worked, thanks. Is there a way to edit a waypoint?
Once the waypoint is in the flight plan, the easiest way to edit it is
to simply delete it and enter the new waypoint you intended and
described in my previous post.
To delete a waypoint, you push the small knob to activate the cursor,
scroll to the waypoint using the large knob, then push the CLR. When the
delete confirmation comes up, push ENT to accept.
Post by WillI'm trying to learn to use VNAV in the Garmin 530. It is a lot
of work to set it up, and I wish it were more directly integrated
with every flight plan. It's very powerful all the same.
I agree that adding a complex flight plan into the GNS430/530 is pretty
cumbersome. This is also true for the Bendix/King KLN-89 and 94 units,
too.
It would have been really slick if one could construct flight plans at
home on their PC, then download to a card that could be placed into the
GPS. However, for some reason the FAA (the US aviation regulators)
purposely did not allow this feature of the IFR-certified GPS's.
In real life, I will often enter the departing airport, the next two
waypoint, then the destination airport into the flight plan when on the
ground after engine start.
Once in the air and when I am relatively assured that the flight plan I
filed and was cleared is the one I am going to fly, I will enter the
remaining waypoints into the plan. It is very common to receive
rerouting in the Northeast US airspace, so often entering the entire
filed flight plan while on the ground can be a waste of fuel.
It is worth mentioning that the 430/530 GPS's have the ability to store
up to 20 different flight plans, so routes you often fly can be stored
and recalled with a few GPS key presses.
To see if the simulated 530 GPS has flight plan storage, press the FPL
button, then scroll to the second page using the small right knob. At
this page (the Flight Plan Catalog), press the MENU button. If you see
a CREATE NEW FLIGHT PLAN? menu choice, then it should allow you to
create and save flight plans in memory spots 1 through 19 (Flight plan 0
is the active flight plan).
