Hi Guys,

Please excuse my dumb questions,I'm old & new to FSX.

When I open up the page to select acft, scenery etc the fly now button is
not available on the botton right of the screen.
This is due to the fact that I have a widescreen monitor, the res is
currently set at 1280x720 (32) the only other option that shows is 1280
x 720 (16).
The video card is Nvidia GeForce GTX 260.

Any advice on how to narrow down the FSX screen would be much
appreciated

Thanks & Regards,
Geordie.

What size wide screen monitor do you have, and what is it's native
resolution? ( assuming you have lcd monitor )

Hi,

Thanks for your reply,the monitor is a Samsung model 2033 20" (50cm).
I'm using Windows 7 and when I go into control panel, adjust resolution
the only options are 1280x720 or 1176x664.

Thanks & Regards

That's an oddball size - it should be 1280x1024 - set it there on your
desktop and FSX will pick it up. hen select 1280x1024 x 32 in FSX.

Have you selected the correct resolution within FSX Settings? Not talking
about your Display setting for your computer but inside FSX Hardware tab?

Hi Geordie,

According to a quick search, your monitor's native resolution is 1600x900 and your video card can
display up to 2560x1600 if you're using DVI.

Did you buy the computer new with this graphics card and monitor pre-installed or did you add them
yourself? The video card probably came with software that allows you to configure it's settings.
Check the Window's Taskbar Notification area down by where the clock is. You might see an icon for
your vid card or you may have to click the little < to display the icons. (I've never seen Windows 7
so it may be different.) Anyway, in your card's config software make sure that your Samsung monitor
is selected and also select the 1600 x 900 x 32 setting for your video card.

If that goes well then make sure that FSX has the same 1600 x 900 x 32 setting.

Good luck, I hope it goes well. I'm sure you'll enjoy FSX.

BTW: Most of the people in this group seem to be old(er)

Geordie,

The Desktop > Right click Screen resolution > Resolution pull down menu in
Win 7 shows the native resolution at the top, the next resolution with the
same perspective as the native next, and the lowest resolution with the same
perspective last.

Mine is 1440x900 (recommended), 1280x800 in the middle (which I prefer), and
800x600 last. The slider on the pull down may be left click and hold
selected, and slid up or down for other resolutions. This is outside of the
nVIDIA control panel.

Geordie;

FSX runs best when the FSX selected resolution and your monitor's
native resolution are the same. First make sure you're set up properly
in Windows for the suggested resolution for the monitor then go into
FSX and select the same resolution.
Try this and see how things go for you.

First set up your screen in Win 7...
right-click on a empty part of the screen, - a menu will appear, - select
'NVIDIA Control Panel'

When the control panel starts on the left will be 'Change resolution' -
click on that.
The right part of the screen will show a list of various resolutions and one
will have something like (native) after it. This one would be the maximum
your monitor can display.

Select it, write it down and the next time you start FSX select that same
resolution with 32 bit color.

Try that first and see how FSX works for you.

Next and important (sorta)... at some point in time you should tell FSX that
you have a 'widescreen' monitor. You can do this whenever you feel
adventurous. You will be looking for a file called 'fsx.cfg'

You will open that file in notepad and look under the [Display] heading. In
that section is a line...
WideViewAspect=True

Make sure yours is as above (True, not False)

Hi Geordie,
Your monitor should suuport many more resolutions than that. It sounds to me
like something is not quite right in your video driver software. I would
visit the website of the company that makes your video card adapter, and
download their latest (and greatest) video drivers. After installing the
latest video driver, you should have many more resolution options than just
two.

Hi Danny,

Well so far it's OK but as I'm new to this,it will probably take a bit
more experience to give give a more accurate assessment.
I'm slowly moving those sliders up so I guess time will tell.

It gets addictive. Check in here frequently. The collective minds here have
a wealth of Flight Sim information.
If you want some company when you fly, try online flying with other
flightsim pilots, take a look at www.flyvifc.org. A fun group of guys with
NO ATC.
