I just posted this on the AVSIM forum, but perhaps some will find it
useful here as well.
Several weeks ago, I suggested downloading the most recent version
(5.5 or higher) of Microsoft's IntelliPoint mouse driver and setting
up the middle mouse key to send "shift-O" when FSX is active. For
details see
http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=121&topic_id=363699&mesg_id=363699&page=&topic_page=2
This morning I had a better idea. I love TrackIR, but it's not my
preferred way of looking around in spot view; for that, I like to use
"mouse look." Trouble is, they compete with each other. The solution
is to deactivate TrackIR temporarily. (By default, this is F9.) I have
a button mapped to this on my yoke, but the extra step is tedious.
Last week we discussed a workaround here:
http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=121&topic_id=388190&mesg_id=388190&listing_type=search
Here's another workaround that doesn't require a separate program, and
that facilitates "mouse look" in the cockpit:
Since I am already using the middle mouse button to turn mouse look
on, why not deactivate TrackIR with the same click? With the current
version of IntelliPoint, you can only assign one keypress to the
middle button...so we are going to make that keypress serve both
purposes.
1. In your IntelliPoint profile for FSX, program the middle mouse
button to send F9. (Previously I had it programmed to send shift-O.)
2. In your TrackIR profile for FSX, go to the hot keys tab and uncheck
"Trap." This will let the F9 go through to FSX once TrackIR has
finished its business.
3. In FSX, assign the mouse look toggle to F9. (There may be more than
one of these; I used the one that was already mapped to shift-O.)
