I have problem lowering the gear of Boeing 747. Every time I approach
the runway and press "G" there is 50% chance the gear may not deploy
and I have to do a missed approach -- Very Annoying!! Lately I
figured out a trick which works most of the time...if I press "G" and
hold it for a few seconds, the gear usually goes down after a bit of
hesitation.
Is anyone else having this problem with their 747's???

Just a thought, you haven't got failures for Gear on by any chance have you?

Default 747?
Do the gear doors open but gear does not drop? (as seen from spot view)
Have you tried using the Gear Lever on the panel to lower the gear?

I have a friend in my flying club who had a freeware Super Connie for FS10.
He attempted to lower the gear of that plane, the gear doors would open but
the gear would not drop down into place. Failures were off and nothing would
resolve the problem.

I have the same Connie and have never had any problem with gear dropping
properly.

Anyone else experience this behavior on any plane that they were able to
solve?

Sure you were slow enough to deploy the gear?

Hi Figaro,
Some aircraft will not lower the gear if you are flying above a certain
airspeed. This is a safety feature to insure that you don't damage the
landing gear. Make sure that you are not flying faster than Vle (maximum
landing gear deployment speed) when you try to lower the gear. Just a
suggestion.

Remember: Any landing that you can walk away from,

Passenger jets usually allow gear extension at any speed, as
an emergency speed brake. This is a recommended emergency
procedure for a Learjet in an uncontrolled high speed dive. The
gear doors will be destroyed in the process, but the gear itself
will survive intact, and there will be a rapid deceleration.

It's the doors, not the gear, that get damaged in high speed gear
cycling.
